Aspartame
Aspartame, which is marketed as “NutraSweet”, “Equal”, “Spoonful”, or simply included in a host of products -- all with the alleged intent of reducing one’s sugar intake and thus allowing for weight loss -- is a product which is becoming increasingly associated with the cause(s) of numerous symptoms, diseases, and health problems. One Federal (United States) report lists 92 symptoms triggered by Aspartame, including symptoms of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, four types of seizures, sexual dysfunction, coma, and death. Millions of individuals are now apparently suffering from “Aspartame Disease”. ___________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer The information contained within the pages of this website is for educational purposes only. An abridged version of two of her reports follows. NNNNNMMMMMNNNNNMMMMMN Several years ago, at a world environmental health conference, the EPA [Environmental Protection Agency -- United States] announced in a keynote address that “there was an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, and they did not understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant across the United States.” The explanation? According to Betty Martini, “when the temperature of Aspartame exceeds 86 oF, the wood alcohol in Aspartame coverts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants). The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus people were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, whereas methanol toxicity is.” In the case of systemic lupus, it had become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially among Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. As with methanol toxicity, the victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. cans of them per day, sometimes even more. In the cases of systemic lupus, which is triggered by the Aspartame, the victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. The victim continues its use, aggravating the lupus to such a degree, that sometimes it becomes life threatening. When people get off the Aspartame, those with systemic lupus usually become asymptomatic. Unfortunately, the disease can not be reversed. However, for those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (in reality, methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear when Aspartame is discontinued. There have been cases where vision has returned and even hearing has returned. “If you are using Aspartame (i.e. NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss -- you probably have Aspartame Disease.” The problem is rampant. In Uganda, the sugar industry is adding Aspartame! Heavy Diet Coke addicts are being diagnosed with MS. When Congressional Hearings were conducted on the subject, Aspartame was included in a package of a hundred different products. Subsequent hearings accomplished nothing as well. In effect, the drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. There are now over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the patent has expired. At the time of the first hearing, people were going blind. The methanol in the aspartame was being converted to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye. Formaldehyde is grouped in the same class of drugs as cyanide and arsenic, i.e. deadly poisons! The distinction is that it takes longer to quietly kill a person. But it is nevertheless killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems. Aspartame changes the brain’s chemistry. It is the reason for severe seizures. This drug changes the dopamine level in the brain. Imagine what this drug does to patients suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. This drug also causes Birth Defects. There is absolutely no reason to take this product. Aspartame is not a diet product! According to the Congressional record, “It makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you fat”. One testimony stated that when the doctor got his patients off Aspartame, their average weight loss was 19 pounds per person. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Aspartame is especially deadly for diabetics. All physicians know what wood alcohol will do to a diabetic. A physician may believe that he has patients with retinopathy, when in fact, it is caused by the Aspartame. The Aspartame keeps the blood sugar level out of control, causing many patients to go into a coma. People who switched from saccharin to an Aspartame product often went into a coma. Their physicians could not get the blood sugar levels under control. Thus, the patients suffered acute memory loss and eventually coma and unfortunately, many of them died. Memory loss is due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxic without the other amino acids found in protein. Thus it goes past the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain. Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon, said, “The ingredients stimulates the neurons of the brain to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees.” [Dr. Blaylock has written a book entitled Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills. (Health Press 1-800-643-2665).] Dr. H.J. Roberts (1-800-814-9800), a diabetic specialist and world expert on Aspartame poisoning, wrote in his book, Defense Against Alzheimer’s Disease, how Aspartame poisoning is escalating Alzheimer’s Disease. Some women are being admitted at 30 years of age with Alzheimer’s Disease! According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, “We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison.” When Aspartame was first introduced, Dr. Roberts discovered that, “his diabetic patients presented memory loss, confusion, and severe vision loss.” What was happening was that the phenylalanine in Aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence. An important question is whether the Monsanto Corporation, the creator of Aspartame, is aware of just how deadly their concoction is. The evidence strongly suggests they know full well. At the same time, they fund the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association, the Conference of the American College of Physicians and Congress. The New York Times, on November 15, 1996, ran an article on how the American Dietetic Association takes money from the food industry to endorse their products. Therefore, the Association can not criticize any additives or tell about their link to Monsanto. [emphasis added] [Corporate Rule thereby extends its reach into associations ostensibly dedicated to providing health benefits!] People contacting the ADA, concerned about the possible effects of NutraSweet in causing grand mal seizures on a daily basis, have discovered the ADA told the attending physician not to take the child off the NutraSweet! What possible reason could they have had? Why not just try it; see if it works? But to specify keeping the child on the drug... There are 92 documented symptoms of Aspartame, ranging in weight gain to coma and death. The majority of these symptoms are neurological, because the Aspartame destroys the nervous system. Aspartame Disease is also partially the cause to what is behind some of the mystery of the Dessert Storm health problems. The burning tongue and other problems discussed in over 60 cases of Desert Storm Syndrome can be directly related to the consumption of an Aspartame product. Several thousand pallets of diet drinks were shipped to the Dessert Storm troops. (Remember heat can liberate the methanol from the aspartame at 86 oF). These diet drinks sat in the 120 oF Arabian sun for weeks at a time on pallets. The service men and women drank them all day long. All of their symptoms are identical to Aspartame poisoning. Dr. Roberts has noted that, “Consuming Aspartame at the time of conception can cause birth defects.” The phenylalanine concentrates in the placenta, causing mental retardation, according to Dr. Louis Elsas, Pediatrician Professor - Genetics, at Emory University in his testimony before Congress. In the original lab tests, animals developed brain tumors (phenylalanine breaks down into DXP, a brain tumor agent). One neurosurgeon said, “When they remove brain tumors, they have found high levels of Aspartame in them.” Stevia, a sweet food, not an additive, which helps in the metabolism of sugar, which would be ideal for diabetics, has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the Food and Drug Administration. For years, the FDA has outlawed this sweet food because of their loyalty to Monsanto’s Aspartame. If it says “sugar free” on the label -- Do not even think about it! Senator Howard Hetzenbaum wrote a bill that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children of the dangers of aspartame. The bill would have also instituted independent studies on the problems existing in the population (seizures, changes in brain chemistry, changes in neurological and behavioral symptoms). The bill (along with a lot of Aspartame users) “was killed by the powerful drug and chemical lobbies, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public.” NNNNNMMMMMNNNNNMMMMMN And if for some reason, the dangers of Diet Drinks laced with Aspartame has not in some way garnered your attention, then consider the influence of Aspartame on Impotence, i.e. Male Sexual Dysfunction Triggered By Aspartame (NutraSweet) By James Bowen, MD (719 332-0033), available from Betty Martini <Mission-Possible-USA@Altavista.net>. Aspartame damages the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus produces gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GRH). The GRH goes down the stalk between the hypothalamus and pituitary and causes the pituitary then to produce gonadotropins. The ganglia goes to the testicles and causes them to produce testosterone. When you’re causing hypothalmic destruction with neuroexcitotoxins like NutraSweet you’re suppressing the formation of male hormone without which there is no sexual drive or pleasure for either. In the original studies aspartame triggered atrophied testes and testicular tumors. It is by this route. Aspartame destroys the myelin sheaths and when that happens the nerves and sheaths try to regenerate but now the signals can be crossed. So the pleasure receptor of the penis sends the signals but it arrives at the brain at a different receptor and not recognized as pleasure. Also, the ganglia collections of nerve sheaths and cells that are kind of little mini brains that lie inside the thorax and abdomen in front of the spinal cord are important in both sexual arousal, penile tumesence (erection) and in producing orgasm. The methyl alcohol type of poisoning from NutraSweet is the foremost known cause of degeneration of the sheaths and the ganglia. Also methyl alcohol type poisoning is the foremost known cause of antimyelin antibodies, so that thereafter the immune system can carry out similar destructions in the absence of aspartame. Now the excitotory area of the cerebral cortex which allows men to be excited, interested and pleasured by sex atrophies when the testosterone is suppressed. Moreover, you have an independent neurotoxin generated by the isolated phenylalanine. Anytime you have a neurotoxin making the brain sick sexual pleasure is obliterated because the brain is the most important sexual organ. You have classic alcohol poisoning and alcoholism and alcohol poisoning is notoriously famous for wiping out the male animal. Serotonin and dopamine levels are suppressed. With your serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitters in the brain obliterated life becomes one long, dark, hopeless, sleepless, pleasureless night. Turns the goodness of sex into a wistful memory instead of a reality. Pepsi isn’t so peppy after all.
